AARW Calls for More Community Participation in Boston City Council Redistricting

12/9/2011 - AARW joined other community organizations in calling for a more comprehensive, community-centered City Council redistricting process.  In addition to more active community involvement in this process, AARW also urged the Boston City Council Committee on Census and Redistricting to keep Chinatown whole as a community of interest.  Read AARW's public testimony by clicking here.


 

2011 Annual Meeting & Holiday Bazaar

Thank you to all our members, supporters, and vendors who came out for our 2011 Annual Meeting & Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, December 10 at BCNC in Chinatown!  In addition to newly elected Board members Sharon Cho, Lisette Le, Laura Misumi, and Chealyn Tim, we were treated to a surprise musical performance by Sandra Lee, Laurence Louie, and Lisa Zhang. AARW @ Advancing Justice 2011

Activist Fellow Jenny Lau represented AARW and Boston area pan-Asian American social justice at the recent Advancing Justice Conference (October 27 to 28, 2011) in San Francisco.  Keep an eye out for Jenny's feature article about her trip in the next AARW member newsletter!


 

AARW and BCNC - Meet the Author:  Ha Jin

On Saturday, October 29, 2011, over 40 community members joined AARW and BCNC in meeting award-winning author Ha Jin, who read from his new novel Nanjing Requiem.  The author also answered questions about his work and signed copies of the new book.  Much appreciation to Ha Jin and all who attended, and special thanks to BCNC for providing space for this event.  Email janet@aarw.org if you would like to purchase an autographed copy of Nanjing Requiem.  Stay tuned for event photos.

Many Thanks To Everyone For A Successful 2011 JUST Eats AARW Benefit Dinner

Over 150 attendees joined Dr. Jean Wu, Dr. Ramsay Liem, Amy Leung, and Student Immigrant Movement in celebrating AARW's 32nd year of pan-Asian social justice activism.  Dr. Paul Watanabe's keynote speech captivated the audience while the great atmosphere at Springstep in Medford combined with an abundant, delicious array of Asian American cuisines and a lively auction conducted by Laurence Louie made JUST Eats truly a night to remember.  Thank you for your support, thank you to our volunteers, and we look forward to many more annual benefits to come!  Photo Credits:  R.
